Entering 3rd grade:
Students will learn word attach strategies to decode multisyllabic words, reading comprehension strategies such as making predictions, summarizing, story-mapping, Question-Answer-Relationships, close reading, argumentation and reading fluency. In addition, students will learn to use evidence from the text to support their answers. In addition, students will be taught effective writing skills for opinion and informational writing using the writing process. Lastly, students will practice essential math skills. Entering 4th -6th grade: Students will learn reading comprehension skills for fiction and nonfiction text using text structure and text features to analyze text. Students will practice using evidence from the text to defend and support their answers, strengthen their vocabulary skills, and word study of Greek and Latin roots. Students will be taught effective writing skills to respond with various genres of writing. Lastly, students will strengthen their math skills in multiplication, division, fractions, geometry, and measurement. Entering 7th -9th grade Students will learn to increase reading fluency, comprehend strategies and study skills to include argumentation, identifying claims, reasons, and bias in text. Students will also analyze text to discover the author's point of view from their point of view, practice close reading strategies, and effective note taking skills. In addition, students will learn effective writing strategies to respond to reading using various genres of writing. Students will strengthen their financial literacy, algebraic reasoning skills, problem solving, and geometry skills using real-word problems. |
Classrooms will be COVID ready to include routine cleaning to disinfect classroom areas, appropriate social distancing and plexiglass shields possible upon request, mask and hand sanitizer will be made available to participants.
