Welcome to the website of Keystone Development Center! As president and co-founder I thank you for taking the time to show your interest in our services and what we have to offer. It is my hope that as you browse our website you find the services we provide helpful to you and your family.
You may be asking why Keystone Development Center? Why?, because greatness lies inside of everyone. Yes, we all possess untapped potential to be better, to do better, and to live better. I know this because I was that person with greatness on the inside but no understanding of how to bring it out. You see, I was once in your position. Like many, my reading challenges began when I was 8 years old in the third-grade. I struggled with reading comprehension. I was placed in the Reading is Fundamental (RIF) program, a reading initiative program to address struggling readers. It was here I gained a solid foundation and passion for reading. During my highschool years I attended a vocational school and was also a part of UNLV’s Upward Bound, a program for low-income families in which neither parent holds a bachelor’s degree. Shortly upon graduating high school I enrolled in Clark County Community College (CCCC) but prior to completing my first semester, I learned I was pregnant with my first child. This placed me in an income bracket of most single-parents, unemployment and underemployment. I received government assistance for a short period of time, long enough to get on my feet. I applied for a Jobs Training Partnership Act program (JTPA) in 1990, a program for young adults 18-24, where I gained job training working for the Nevada Internal Revenue Service. Later, I went through the Displaced Homemaker program at CCCC, currently College of Southern Nevada, where I worked in the Biology department part-time and took college courses towards earning an Associates Degree. I currently hold an Associates of General transfer from CSN, a Bachelor's of Science in Workforce Education, a Masters of Education in Educational Leadership from UNLV and a Masters of Arts in Teaching from Sierra Nevada College. I believe that programs like the ones I attended will provide you with the necessary support to move you from surviving to thriving and this is why we exist. I tell you all of this because I was you and you too can thrive!
I understand that individuals from low socio-economic backgrounds walk around with untapped potential and greatness tucked away. KDC wants to help you to pull out that greatness and to provide a guiding hand so that you can discover it, express it, and then provide invaluable keys that will unlock doors to your own destiny. in return, the potential that once sat dormant, untapped, and unexpressed will result in changed lives, homes, communities and ultimately the world!
Here at KDC we believe everyone is essential and we are here to help! This is a place where we unlock doors to enhance your quality of life!
